'Christ in the Garden of Gethsamane'

First Presbyterian Church,
Weedsport, NY

This lovely stained glass window (84" diameter) is a true rarity as it shows a true love of the Gothic style by Henry Keck. Even though the Henry Keck Stained Glass Studio (1913-1974) gained national fame by producing opalescent windows for churches all over the US, Mr. Keck's first love was the Gothic style and examples like this are rare with only a few examples of his talents in this 'all-painted' Gothic style ever produced. The Sacred Heart Cathedral in Rochester, NY boasts hundreds of square feet of Mr. Keck's paint work in their 'Loft' windows which were produced in 1910-1912 by Pike Studios. Mr. Keck was the primary painter on this project as an employee of Pike Studios (1909-1912). These incredible windows are presently hidden from public view by the organ pipes.

This window was produced by Mr. Keck in 1918 as a 'Showroom Sample' and hung in his studio on W. Genesee St, Syracuse, NY until 1948 when it was sold to it's donor and installed BACKWARDS, behind the Altar, in the First Presbyterian Church.

During a complete restoration in the Fall of 2003 I discovered the two panels were originally cemented on only one side and the wooden sash was installed in reverse (glazing compound on the inside!!) assumable, because the Minister in 1948 wanted Christ's image facing South in it's new Westerly facing home behind the Altar.

"Restoring this exceptionally fine Gothic window was a pure pleasure"
