Recreating the hands and right foot take quite a bit of time. After the tracing lines are painted and the pieces are fired in the kiln at 1220F, we begin to paint the shading. Once we apply the paint, a special brush called a badger blender is used to blend the paint and remove any brush lines. (Matting) This can be seen in the photos. (top right & bottom left photos)

In this photo, we’re not quite done with the hands and right foot yet. This is only about half way through the shading process. (bottom right photo) After the shading is completed, the next step is to paint the yellow for the inside of Christ’s robe, using Silver Stain, which is the final firing at 1125F. |
